Welcome to the website of the faith communities
at COP 17!

The faith communities of the world have joined together to present a united front at COP 17 in Durban. They feel they have a moral obligation to ask the negotiators to look beyond their own countries' selfish interests and, even though it may cost them in economic terms, to come up with a solution for the whole world. We invite people of all religions, spiritual beliefs, and creeds to join us in this campaign.

African Faith leaders speak out

Representatives of religious organisations from across Southern Africa gathered in Lusaka, Zambia, from 5-6 May 2011, and in Nairobi, Kenya, from 7th to 8th June 2011, to discuss the response of faith communities to climate change and their response to the UN climate change negotiations in Durban, COP 17.

"We, the people of the world, have lost our moral compass, and reduce all economic decisions to maximising profit and consumption, and so as faith communities we must renew our commitment to compassion for other living beings and the principle of justice"

Accommodation in Durban during COP 17

We have booked a limited number of hotel and hostel rooms in Durban for the two weeks of COP 17 so that the faith people can stay in close proximity to each other. The rooms at the Diakonia centre will be available for meetings of religious groups but must be booked through us.
